What You'll Find Along the Way
Find out all about the Knockroon vision and masterplan at the visitor centre, visit our stunning showhomes then walk or cycle on the traffic-free path to Dumfries House. The 40 minute walk is interesting and varied through woodland and scenic countryside with history all around. The flora and fauna will fascinate you as you walk along the Lugar Water and glimpse the house itself.
Close to Dumfries House is the Coach House Café with the opportunity to enjoy a light lunch or perhaps just coffee and a delicious cake. Open every day between 10am and 5pm (summer opening) or 10am and 4pm (winter opening). The stable block has been renovated to provide an ideal venue for conferences, meetings and school visits.
To visit Dumfries House book online, call 01290 421742 or just drop in and join the next available tour. The house is open Sunday to Friday, Saturday subject to availability (dumfries-house.org).
Or perhaps enjoy a picnic and choose one or more circular routes as detailed on the plan below. There is a cycle path from the Barony A Frame, a B-listed steel structure that has been restored at a cost of more than a million pounds to serve as a monument to the coal mining industry.
The woodland walks within the 2,000 acre estate include magical beech avenues, 54 bed Tamar Manoukian Outdoor Activity Centre, Belling Hospitality Centre, Walled Garden and a 17th century doocot.
Whatever you do, you are sure to have an excellent day out, with lots still to do on your next visit.
The Knockroon to Dumfries House walk and all other walks shown on the plan are not suitable for buggies or pushchairs. Suitable footwear is advised, as the walk can be muddy in places, walkers are asked to please respect the needs of others and care for the environment.
